Dr. Edith Widder is a pioneer in the study of deep-sea bioluminescence. She is among the first people ever to venture into the twilight zone of our oceans – and now she is embarking on the most important expedition of her career: a dive to nearly 1,000 meters below the surface. Down there, she hopes to finally document a phenomenon that has accompanied her throughout her entire research life, and that may hold the key to understanding how an ecosystem can thrive under the most hostile conditions imaginable.
